Teenagers need to diet with care and really shouldn't be dieting unless they are genuinely overweight. Most healthy diets for teens will ensure that they maintain a sensible weight.
So, exactly what are healthy diets for teens, and how do you make sure that you are encouraging your teens to eat properly and not pick up too many bad habits for later life?
Healthy diets for teens are largely based on common sense, but this can be hard to implement as they also tend to be on the run, with socializing, working and studying. Getting them to sit and eat a sensible meal can be a difficult task.
A good way of ensuring you are following healthy diets for teens is trying to get them involved in what you are doing, and understanding the importance of it. Teens will generally fall into three clear categories: compliant, insecure and flighty.
If you are lucky, you will have teenagers in the compliant category. Getting those in the other two categories to adopt healthy diets for teens can be a little trickier.
The insecure group of teens feels that they have to put undue pressure on themselves to be skinny. Sure, they will eat fruit and vegetables, but getting them to eat anything more substantial can be challenging, as they don't want to eat that much.
The final group is the more flighty, always out group who also have a little financial freedom from a part time job or allowance. They will buy food while they are out, paying no mind as to whether it falls into the healthy diets for teens bracket or not. They simply care that it is food and that it is there when they are hungry. This group is the hardest to monitor as you are never sure what they ate and when, and you have to rely on snatched conversations as they pass through the home before leaving again.
Ensuring healthy diets for teens will more often than not come down to cunning, resourceful parents getting ahead of the game and doing all they can!
