The Harvey Banting Low Carbohydrate Diets
This plan prohibits the following six foods, bread, milk, butter, beer, sugar, and potatoes. You may eat any vegetable that grows above ground and can enjoy four moderate meals per day.
The Atkins Low Carbohydrate Diets
This plan employs a four-phase plan, which includes a 14-day induction, ongoing weight loss phase, the pre-maintenance diet, and the maintenance phase. On this plan, carbohydrates are restricted to around 20 grams per day in the first 2 weeks. A weekly 5-gram increment is followed until you establish your maintenance phase, which equals the number of carbs you can eat per day without gaining any of your weight back.
Power Protein Low Carbohydrate Diets
This plan encourages proteins such as, all meats, poultry, and fish. You may also have eggs, cheese, and even a little bit of dairy such as, milk cream, and yogurt. In addition, you are encouraged to eat good quantities of vegetables as long as they are not prohibited below. Foods expressly cautioned against include legumes, starchy vegetables such as, potatoes and squash. You should also avoid sweet foods such as, candy, syrups, ice cream, and some high sugar fruits such as, pineapples and mangos.
Menu plans for each of these diets are available for free and can be found online for you convenience. In many cases, a low carb diet menu will have supplement bars, snacks, or drink foods that will help you stick with the program.
