Women's Health Information

History is a good indicator of how far we have come, not only as women but as a culture. In the beginning women were the ones to run the household, to let men hunt and to take care of the children. As our culture became less Neanderthal, women took on more responsibilities such as gathering, making things, and taking care of the children. Up until the 20th century women were mostly considered to be useful for running a home and nothing else. While some women had jobs they were considered less valuable than men, and less able to do certain jobs. This history helps us understand the evolution of women's health information.

Women's health information in the early centuries, even in the 1800's, was little known. A little bit about the reproductive system was known regarding women's health information, but it was still thought that a man should not treat a woman, and vapors were considered the weakness of women and not anything more troublesome.

Luckily culture has advanced where women's health information is concerned. In the mid 1900's more focus was beginning to be placed on women. They were battling their station in life as housewives. More and more were trying to get jobs that men had, and furthermore women were beginning to look at their health and voting. It has taken several more years to finally reach a point in which women are considered almost equal.

Since 1990 women's health information has become paramount to the medical world. More research is being done to bring more women's health information to the forefront of things. The SWHR is doing research based on women, getting more women in medical trials, and basically focusing on getting funding to help women.

We now realize that women's health information must be more than just the reproductive system. It has to be about how the whole body and mind work. There are major differences in a woman and man. These differences are now being accounted for in the medical community through more than women's health information. Women are also being asked to focus on their health as a way to be more productive in their family and jobs.
