Women's Health Month

Many events are scheduled for the month of May when it comes to women's health month. Women's health week kicks off on Mother's Day every year. This event is where families, individuals, friends, communities and others come together so that women can learn how to live better and longer lives. The emphasis is on learning to stay active longer through healthy eating, fitness and safety.

Some of the things that have come out of the women's health month festivities include steps to take to improve your quality of life at any age. These include getting approximately two and half to three hours of exercise weekly. The exercise doesn't have to be strenuous, just of the moderate variety. As a matter of fact, if you are very out of shape walking is a great way to begin an exercise regimen. Once you have built up to exercising regularly add another hour and a half of vigorous physical activity. You can also combine both types of exercise each week so you don't get bored.

Eating a nutritious, balanced diet is another step to take in overall health. If you haven't put into action a great plan, women's health month would be a great time to start. You can find nutritious diet plans at your doctor's office or online. It is always a great idea to get a physical at your doctor's office and discuss any weight loss eating plans with them before you start.

Schedule your yearly preventive disease exams during women's health month. That way you will be able to remember when you need to see your doctor every year. These checkups should include a pelvic exam, Pap smear, breast exam and blood work. This ensures that all of you is healthy.

Women take care of many people throughout their lives, but often forget to care for themselves. During women's health month make a pledge to yourself that you will get enough sleep, learn to manage stress better, and make time for yourself to relax. When you use the time during women's health month to rejuvenate yourself, everyone comes out a winner.
