Women's Health Physicians
More and more, a women's health nurse is caring for women patients. The women's health nurse is becoming an expert in women-focused health promotion and the prevention of diseases. They can be the ones to handle the yearly Pap smear and breast exams as well as answer any questions a woman may have. The women's health nurse can assist their patients in ongoing care for chronic health problems as well.
With the addition of women's health care nurses more women are being taken care of, staying healthy and having reduced medical expenses. Studies have shown that there are between 12,000 and 15,000 women that have become a women's health nurse. In the United States nurses don't have to be certified to be a women's health care nurse, yet more than half have this certificate. More often today women are asking for a women's health care nurse to provide them with total health care needs.
A women's health nurse has gained advanced education as well as clinical experience in helping women with their health care issues. They are able to help and deliver health care services to a woman throughout her life. A nurse of this type will have extra training on reproductive and gynecological needs. A women's health nurse will provide well care, prenatal care and postpartum assistance.
The advancement of a women's health nurse also puts them in the area of helping with policies for women's health care. They are able to assist with health policies that are friendly to women so that more women will take better care of themselves. A women's health nurse may provide counseling, health education, medical assessments and work with a physician in high risk pregnancies and diagnoses.
Many women's health nurses will help out at community clinics to ensure that every woman gets proper medical treatments or exams. They are also available to make house calls if the patient requires it, something a physician rarely has the time to do. A women's health care nurse has bridged the gap in many instances between the care a doctor can give, as they have become a big helping hand in women's health.
