Child Health Nutrition

A child's growing period is critical and parents have to take extra care to see that their child's nutrition needs are met to the fullest. Child health will depend on the food and the exercises he gets. A child is naturally inclined to taste and sample all types of food and will have a tendency to gravitate towards sweet and fried foods.

Most children develop a liking for ice-creams, junk food, candy and soda. These food items can spoil the health of the child if they are consumed in excess, and it is imperative that the child is made to understand the ill effects of these foods. Constant intake of these foods will create an addiction for sugar, tooth decay, resistance to insulin which will eventually lead to diabetes, chances of developing osteoporosis and kidney stones, nervous disorders and a short attention span.

Parents should put extra effort to see that child health is maintained by nutritious food. Try and prepare healthy meals for your children and do not depend on packaged foods and fast foods. These foods usually have preservatives and artificial flavorings and colors and also high content of sugar and fats. You should find out about your child's preferences and tastes and try to make nutritious meals according to those preferences. This will slowly make the child develop a taste for healthy food prepared at home and will have a lesser urge for junk food items.

Child health can be maintained by providing nutritious meals which include lean meats, eggs, breads made from whole grains, dairy products, fresh vegetables and fruits. Breakfast can include an egg along with a bowl of cereal and milk. If you are packing lunch you can make a sandwich from whole grain bread and the filling can be chicken or turkey. You can also chop carrots and other cooked vegetables to make a vegetable sandwich along with cheese or mayonnaise. Fruits also can be included as a sweet treat after a meal. If your child is fond of snacking prepare some nutritious snacks which are baked and avoid fried items. Do not keep any soda in the house, or you can replace them with milk shakes and fresh fruit juices.

A child will naturally take to the food which is readily available when it is hungry and therefore you should have in mind a number of healthy dishes which can be prepared and preserved in the fridge. When in school you should make sure the child does not go for the junk foods available in vending machines and keeps to the healthy food items served in the cafeteria.
