Diet And Nutrition

Buying and reading all the nutritional and diet books and following those exact instructions is not going to make you a healthy person. Nutrition experts say that people actually eat better than they think.

Here is a look at some of the nutrition mistakes a person makes, thinking they are well on their way to a balanced and healthy diet-

Eating canned fruits, vegetables, diet crackers, and muffins even though the labels say it's healthy, it may not always be healthy. Processed food takes nutrients out of vegetables and fruits. Crackers can contain artificial ingredients even though it does not say so on the packing.

Substituting fruit juices for whole fruits - Fruit juices are certainly healthier than sodas but they do contain concentrated sources of sugar and other preservatives. If you drink juice and think that you can loose weight then one does not get the same sense of fullness from drinking juice that a person gets from eating whole fruit. The calories in fruit juices are high compared to fruits. When purchasing fruit juices check the ingredients, especially the sugar content, never assume that a product is healthy, even if you buy it from the health food section.

Not quite sure of the carbohydrates. People are often seen shopping for low carb food as a part of their focus on a weight loss or stay healthy diet. There are carbs that are required by the body and is considered really good. There are some that are not that good but the bottom line is that your brain and body should have carbohydrates daily. Complex carbohydrates, that are rich in whole grains and fiber gives the feeling of being full, as a result making you eat less. Nutrition experts state that you should never cut any food group from your regular diet.

Eating in excess at every meal - One may think just because they are eating healthy food which consists of low-fat, low-carb, or even healthy and nutritionally balanced foods, they can eat as much as they want. Many people feel that they need to feel stuffed after every meal. These people also tend to believe that they can eat larger portions since they are eating health food. People should remain conscious about the portions of the food that they eat, however restaurant portions are not the best choice.

Overeating and under eating - eating in irregular intervals throughout the day may disrupt the blood sugar and insulin levels and lowers the metabolism leading to weight gain.

Taking too many supplements is not good for ones health. The vitamin pill is a supplement and should complement the diet and not act as a substitute for the food that is not eaten.

Not exercising - One may think even though they are on a diet they should stop exercising and that diet and nutrition is all about food. Food alone cannot make you healthy. Make sure that the body exercises regularly.
