Diet Health Nutrition Wellness

Health is wealth! This is a well known adage which every one of us has been hearing since time immemorial. Health is truly a gift of God, because the vast riches and comforts of the entire world can never equal the comfort of being healthy and fit. What exactly do people mean when they say the term 'health?'

People actually mean good health or absence of disease, when they say about health. But technically the term health just means the state of the body, and that state could be either good or bad. Now Health is not just limited to the physical health of the body. Mental and Emotional health are factors which need to be included in this broad perspective. A person in good health or optimum health in the true sense will possess optimum, physical, mental and emotional health.

Now once the term health has been understood, we need to analyze what is the factor which maintains this health or what are the variables that contribute to the health of an individual. Though there are a number of issues which affect health, either directly or indirectly, the foremost among them is indisputably the 'diet'.

If diet is so important, then it is imperative to understand the exact meaning of diet. Every other person is found to be uttering the terms, diet, health, nutrition, wellness, disease, food etc. But do all of them actually understand the exact or the underlying connotation of these terms?

People in general use the term diet to mean some specific kind of food, or special modified kind of food which is consumed for some specific purpose, for example the high protein diet to build muscle, or the low carbohydrate diet to lose weight and so on and so forth. But again, Diet is not what these people mean by the use of that term. Diet is technically any consumable item which is eaten on a regular basis. That when simply put, means any thing which is eaten or consumed. So that means chips, fruits, water, coke, vegetables, pizzas, cakes and every eatable item is included in the vast term called diet.

Nutrition is something which is actually aimed at maintaining good health. It is nothing but a regulated or modified kind of diet which aims at providing the necessary factors requisite in maintaining good or optimum health. So every diet is not nutritious, but all nutrition is a diet. Finally wellness is that state of the individual, where the trinity of body, mind and soul are in perfect good health.
