The starting point or the entry level of this food industry is production. Production again is related to and involves various other industries. First among the production of vegetarian food is the farming or the agriculture industry.

There are professionals required to overlook the working and day to day maintenance of the farms and commercial cultivation of food. Farm managers, agriculture experts, agriculture engineers, bio engineers, genetic engineers, geneticians, agriculture research scientists are all professionals involved in this food industry. Farming does not involve only cultivation and harvesting.

It involves use of techniques to harvest a good yield, harvesting of genetically modified strains of certain fruits, vegetables and also of the animal kingdom. Measures need to be taken to properly fertilize the soil, protect the crop from infection and invasion by fungus, bacteria and also environmental factors. All these factors create immense job opportunities in the related fields. A bio-chemical engineer can determine the safe choice of the fertilizers and pesticides.

Next is the collection process which involves use of heavy machinery and human labor. There are several skilled and non skilled workers involved in this process. Next is the storage, milling, processing, packaging, labeling and distribution of these products. Again distribution involves local distribution and wide scale export to other nations too. All these processes involve a myriad of skilled workers, professionals like food technologists, scientists, engineers etc. Finally when the processed or packed food arrives it is again sold in the supermarkets or used in the restaurants and households.
