Oranges- the mere mention elicits a tangy taste in the mouth. Oranges have always been associated with freshness and energy. Oranges belong to the Citrus group of fruits. It is a well known fact that oranges contain a high amount of Vitamin C. A mere intake of hundred grams of this pulpy and tangy fruit can provide almost forty seven calories. It contains absolutely no fat at all, making it an excellent choice for the people watching their weight or on a weight losing program.
One hundred grams of an orange will provide almost twelve grams of the energy giving carbohydrates, while the same amount of an orange can also provide one gram of protein. The iron content is around one percent and the calcium content is around four percent. The oranges also are rich in Vitamin A, which amounts to four percent of the RDA recommended daily allowance. The Vitamin C content is a whopping eighty nine percent of the daily required amount which has been recommended by the RDA.
The oranges are recommended highly by nutritionists and medical professionals, because they are a ware house of a variety of different nutrients. All these different nutrients are useful in different functions in the body. Vitamin C helps in raising and also maintaining the immunity.
The immunological system is kept healthy with an adequate amount of Vitamin C in the blood. This immunity is required by humans to fight against the various diseases. An average human being has to deal with an innumerable amount of bacteria and disease producing micro organisms in his daily life. But none of us fall ill with every encounter with them. That is the function of immunity in our body, to provide daily security and safety. Oranges will help in maintenance of this security.
