A Healthy Recipe For Poached Pears

1 Cup

Water

3 Tablespoons

Sugar

3 Tablespoons

Lemon juice

2 Sticks

Cinnamon, halved

1/2 Teaspoon

Vanilla extract

4 Medium

Ripe pears, firm, peeled, cored, and halved

1 Tablespoon

Cornstarch

1 Ounce

Semisweet chocolate

1/4 Teaspoon

Ground cinnamon

  1. Combine water, sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon stick halves, and vanilla in a large skillet, bring mixture to a boil over medium heat. Reduce heat, and place pear halves, cut side down, in a single layer in skillet.
  2. Spoon cooking liquid over pear halves. Cover and simmer 15 minutes or until pears are tender. Remove from heat. Place pears in a large, shallow dish, using a slotted spoon, and set aside. Discard cinnamon stick halves.
  3. Combine 2 tablespoons water and 1 tablespoon cornstarch, stir well. Add to cooking liquid, bring to a boil over high heat. Cook 1 minute or until mixture has slightly thickened, stirring constantly. Pour cooking liquid over pears, cover and chill thoroughly.
  4. Place semisweet chocolate in a small bowl with 1 teaspoon of cooking liquid, place bowl in a small saucepan of hot water. Cook over low heat until chocolate melts. Stir in ground cinnamon, let cool.
  5. To serve, spoon ? cup cooking liquid onto each of 4 dessert plates. Top each with 2 poached pear halves and 1 teaspoon chocolate glaze.
