Supplements For Acne
Acne is every teen ager's night mare come true. Puberty and the years subsequent to it bring on various hormonal changes in the body. These hormonal changes are meant to prepare the body for the upcoming function of reproduction.
The hormones are basically chemicals which are produced naturally by the body in response to the signals received from the brain and the nervous system.
These hormones are no doubt essential and truly beneficial to the normal functioning of the body.
But during the puberty and the few years following the puberty, the hormone production surges, and due to this sudden rush of a variety of new hormones in the body, there are certain minor maleffects too. Acne is one such maleffect of puberty hormones or the reproductive hormones.
Though the same kind of hormones is produced in all teen agers, not all of them suffer from this maleffect of Acne. The major reason behind this fact is that, in addition to the effect of hormones, Acne is also dependent upon the familial tendency and genetic predisposition.
How exactly do these reproductive hormones cause Acne? Acne is basically an inflammation of the pores of the skin. The pores are meant for perspiration and need to be kept open in order to eliminate the waste matter through the sweat. But the reproductive hormones cause an increased production of sebum in the skin cells.
Sebum is an oily substance and basically helps to keep the skin hydrated and supple. But when there is increased production of sebum, the tiny pores get clogged by the excessive sebum.
The hormones also cause an accelerated exfoliation of the skin cells, which leads to accumulation of the old and dead skin cells in the underlying layers of the skin. The excess amount of dead skin cells and the excessive sebum both together contribute in blockage of the tiny pores, thus trapping the harmful waste in side the skin. This waste matter now starts breeding infection and a resultant inflammation leads to swelling, redness and pain of the affected pore. This is what is visible as Acne.
Acne occurring during puberty or during pregnancy should be a phenomenon. But if it persists and is quite disturbing, medical care should be sought. Antibiotics can help in case of severe infection. The best option is drink lots of water, eat fruits and green vegetables and take some supplements. Zinc supplement. Flax seed supplement, Vitamin C and Vitamin A may be taken, but only under medical supervision.
