Healthy Weight Height Ratio
A healthy weight height ratio is usually influenced by a number of factors. Age, the density of a person's bones, sex and height are some of them. Other people are of the opinion that calculating your Body Mass Index (BMI) is the best way to determine if you are of the required weight. But there are those who beg to differ since the index does not take into consideration other important factors apart from weight and height. Those who doubt BMI advise people to use the ration of the hips and waist.
Ideal body weight differs for different kinds of people. Never think that another person's required healthy weight height ratio applies to you even if you share the same traits. BMI never considers someone's chest, hip or waist size. These are very important factors to take into consideration. A lean person may have a higher BMI than overweight person.
But, the truth of the matter is that the lean person has more muscle than body fat. The overweight person is still unhealthier because there is a lot of excess fat in the body. The waist-hip ratio (WHR) will be a more effective way of determining which of the two people is healthier than the other.
BMI does not consider bone mass. People suffering from diseases related to bone mass will not present the correct BMI. In such cases, the WHR will be more efficient since it will take into consideration the amount of body fat in the patient's body. This has led to the conclusion that BMI is not the most effective way of dealing with weight-related issues, especially when it comes to determining a person's overall health.
The WHI makes use of a person's waist measurements and hip measurements. The ratio between the two is said to be an effective way of determining if a person is healthy or not. The measurements are taken from the smallest part of your waist and divided by the widest part of your hips. These results are then interpreted in relation to available predetermined data.
The only disadvantage of using the WHR is that it does not effectively calculate a person's total body fat in relation to their body muscle. It is important to calculate a person's body fat percentage before declaring them healthy or otherwise. Body weight percentage is obtained from calculating the ratio of the total body fat in relation to their overall body weight.
