Bone Cancer Pain
Although bone cancer is not so prevalent cancer type, it doesn’t make that easy to deal with as it affects the bones which are important body parts that makes a healthy body. The bone cancer pain associated with it is the deadliest pain types that often results in increased heart beat, rapid breathing, anxiety, insomnia and depression in the patients. It can be either acute or chronic. While acute pain is largely due to tissue damage and may last for three months or so, chronic pain on the other hand is persistent and lasts longer.
The initial bone cancer pain symptoms are uneasiness and discomfort in bones and with cancer tumors growing in the bones it results into sustaining pain. However, one cannot avoid a bone cancer if it really happens but with early diagnosis one can expect some relief in bone cancer pain. So, if there are indications such as loss of sensation, increase in calcium level, frequent urination, weakness and fatigue in bones, poor appetite and regular vomiting than one should resort to immediate medical attention as they can be the symptoms of cancer in bone. If one detects bone cancer in its early stages, it becomes equally easy to manage the cancer and the resultant pain.
Bone cancer pain can be both due to disease as well as treatments associated to control it. Further the level and type of pain are also different for different persons. There are many factors that contribute to the pain due to bone cancer such as the area affected with cancer, the stage of the cancer, age of the patient, pain threshold level, immunity and sensitivity of the body. There are other factors such as psychological fear which contribute to the severity in pain.
The recent advancement in medical treatment work towards comprehensive management of bone cancer pain includes proper medication, appropriate behavioral techniques, radiation therapy, surgery and above all emotional counseling to deal with the stress of treatment as well as pain. The treatment for bone cancer pain depends on the overall body condition of the patient and includes the use of medications such as antibiotics, anticonvulsants, antidepressants, biophosphonates combined with alternative therapies such as massage, acupuncture and even self-hypnosis.
