Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome
While many chronic pains are caused by external factors such as not getting enough rest or overtraining, there are other conditions that can cause you to have pain on a regular basis in joints. Chronic regional pain syndrome is a disease that while rare, is also very powerful. It affects the way in which the nerves in your body work, and can cause several different physical symptoms. If you happen to notice symptoms and catch chronic regional pain syndrome in time, it will be easier to manage, though it is not something that can be entirely cured with modern medicine.
The most common symptoms of chronic regional pain syndrome include a consistent burning and shooting pain in an affected area, accompanied by inflammation and possible changes in the texture and color of your skin. Generally, sufferers of chronic regional pain syndrome experience muscle weakening and deterioration as well, as they cope with the pain that comes along with it. Should it get too severe, it can actually stop movement completely in the affected area, as the pain can become too great to handle without strong medications and treatments. One of the primary tests that a doctor can perform to see if it is indeed CRPS is by testing the blood circulation around a particular area, as this is a very good indicator that something is awry.
Treatment for chronic regional pain syndrome is usually quite simple, requiring injections of anesthetic that will help to dull the edge of the pain and assist you with living your life at a more normal pace. Doctors may also recommend that you take physical therapy sessions to help you restore the volume and strength to muscles that may have been damaged by chronic regional pain syndrome. Counseling is also generally advised, as it provides you with a way to cope with the presence of the disease in your life, and also helps you manage the pain that you are dealing with, without resorting to strong prescription narcotics. Acupuncture is a fairly decent remedy for the pain as well, as it will restore some of the lost circulation and lower the inflammation.
