Knee Pain Running
Apart from simply using it as a means to get fit and to keep your cardiovascular system in good health, running is also a way through which many people enjoy the sights and sounds of the great outdoors. However, if you have knee pain running there is a good chance that it is not going to be enjoyable for you for long, especially if you do not take the correct steps to fix whatever it may be that has your knee in pain before you start hitting the streets again. While your first instinct may be to run or walk off the knee pain running, it is important that you give your body a period in which it can relax and heal.
One of the first causes of knee pain running is generally an unbalanced system of muscles in your leg, which can cause pain not only in the knee but can lead to shin splints. If you are also working out in the gym, you must exercise every muscle in your leg instead of just the quads and the hamstrings.
Second, if you are running on a surface that is not conducive of a good run, such as gravel or sand, it can cause your body to exert way more force than should be necessary in that case, leading to knee pain running. Try to stay on tracks that were specifically designed for running, or bike paths. Also, a great way to avoid knee pain running is to buy shoes that have good support for your arches and your heels in them.
Third, if you are running too much without giving your body relaxation, your muscles will not heal properly and you can easily tear a muscle, damage your joints, or experience knee pain running. Working out while there is still a burn in your muscles does help you grow stronger, and you have to feel some pain before you improve, but there are limits and running too much will only end up harming you in the long run. Ultimately, if you do not pay attention to the signs your body gives you, you may end up needing surgical remedies to make the pain go away.
