Pain In Heel Of Foot
The pain in heel of foot is one of the commonest pains in adults. It occurs due to daily walking and the pressure the feet have to bear with as it supports the weight of the body against the ground. Two body structures found on the sole of foot called the plantar fascia and the flexor are associated with pain in heel of foot. What normally happens is that as people walk around on their daily activities 80% of the body stability is supported by the curve or the arch on the sole of the foot. The other 20% is contributed by the plantar-fascia and muscles and tendon on the sole of the foot. The abnormalities of the gait cause inflammations to the plantar fascia and hence the pains commonly known the plantar fasciitis.
This pain in the heel of the foot attacks people who are active and are over 40 years of age. The decrease in elasticity of the plantar fascia due to age is known to increase the prevalence of pain in heel of foot. This condition is also known to attack children of between 8 to 13 years of age. The left leg is more vulnerable than the right leg. It is also known to attack both legs in rare occasion of up to 30% of the prevalence rate.
When there is a misalignment in the structure of the feet, usually caused by the abnormalities, then there are chances of getting pain in heel of foot. People who engage in strenuous body exercises involving the feet like jumping and running, and those who suffer from obesity are known to be at the risk of getting this pain. Even people who wear shoes that do not fit them properly have the same risk and are advised to put on shoes that fit properly to avoid the pain in heel of foot.
The severity of the pain in heel of foot is different from time to time. When there is a prolong time of inactivity of the sufferer will feel much pain when he/she gets active. This is due to the tightening of the plantar fascia during the inactive time. If this activities are carried on for long time the severity increases.
The disease can be treated using conservative treatments like avoid things that cause more pain and applying cold things like ice on the affected area in order to reduce pain and inflammation.
